It’s been a while since my last post, and quite the ride the past couple years. We work, we build relationships, we love, in business, in life. We raise children, we’re there for our loved ones, and the days/months/years seem to fly by faster as we get older. But, are we really living? Suppose that all depends on how one defines living. I for one reflect back on my 50 something years, I still feel much younger than I am, I act younger than I am, although physically can’t deny the body parts are shifting around, undeniably showing signs of my years, but with those precious years comes a great level of knowledge and experience that I’ve finally learned to embrace. Health, family, work, travel, (which I definitely don’t do enough of) love, good eats/drink, all part of the life journey. Recognizing the importance of putting good food in our bodies, (counting calories, low fat, high protein, etc., you know the drill!) exercising, and not only working to live but living! I’ve honestly not yet defined living, and I do hope I have many good years of living still ahead, but I do think the education of my years is beginning to help me define what is most important in each and every day. So simple is my daily goal, live life to it’s fullest. Walking each morning with my brother, along the ocean, breathing the air, and feeling all life has to give. I suppose age really brings out the little and yet most important things in life.
As I reflect on my mistakes in the past, and sure, I’ve made many, I also recognize the importance of those mistakes, and learning from them, while not repeating them. None of this is rocket science, we all know the score, and I do believe our goals are all the same, finding peace and happiness in each day.
As a proud single father of two grown loving boys, my best friends, a brother and sister I love dearly, a role in a business that truly defines me, as a coach, as a leader by example, something I’ve tried very hard to be for my boys as they’ve grown, my life is really good, and it’s something I’ve not always recognized in it’s simplest form. I’m very fortunate to have all I do in friends, family and work. Again, the basics, the simple things in life, the most important part of living.
So, what is the answer to living, really living? I think it’s quite simple. It’s not the material things, it’s not the bigger, better toys, these economic times have clearly reminded us of that, it’s about simplicity, the ability to wake up each day with a smile, open your eyes and really see everything around you, breath the air, be kind to others, and when you tuck in each night be thankful for what you have.
